此前节目中介绍的宗教改革模式，不论是德国，还是瑞士，在改革进程上都是源自民间的改革诉求，自下而上展开教会改革。不过，今天我们要介绍的英国宗教改革却刚好倒过来了，是从统治者的意愿开始向下层民众扩展，最终成为整个国家的改革运动。

1485年，英国两个大家族经过争夺之后，都铎家族胜出，建立了都铎王朝，第一位登基的是亨利七世。为了巩固统治，亨利七世令其长子娶西班牙公主为妻，借此与欧洲第一强国西班牙结盟。没想到，亨利七世的长子婚礼之后就过世了，西班牙公主马上成了寡妇。为确保英国和西班牙结盟，亨利七世又令其次子亨利王子迎娶刚过门的嫂嫂为妻。这样的做法在当时很难为公众所接受，因此亨利七世特地从罗马教廷获取了一张由教宗颁发的特许状，承认这桩婚姻的合法性。

亨利七世过世后，亨利王子登基，成为亨利八世。当时是1509年，正是路德推行改教运动的前夕。那时，英国民众对罗马教廷也非常不满，本土的宗教改革思想在民间相当普遍。然而，亨利八世只关心如何让英国强大起来，如何让都铎家族千秋万代地延续下去，所以对民间的改革诉求置之不理，但客观环境却让亨利八世不得不改变立场。

Welcome listeners, brothers and sisters in Christ and friends to this series of 16 talks on God’s law vs grace. Today is our first Talk. I would like to introduce the series. This is a 16 part series in 15 minutes segments on the major theme of Law vs Grace. We have entitled our series “Law vs Grace” because, in the mind of many, the two are in contradiction, conflict or competition. We will be exploring their relationship over the 16 sessions. We should be able to cover a good range of this topic to enable us to have a clear and firm grasp of the matter.
